Lockdown Blues

After three months of absence from the course due to Covid-19 restrictions the Seniors have finally been able to recommence organised matches.

Captain”s handover took place at the end of March with a ‘virtual’ baton change, Roland Hardiman handing over to Malcolm Banks. What a difficult time for Malcolm to pick up the reigns, with no golf being played and our annual calendar of events torn to shreds. One of his first tasks was to contact our Interclub playing partners and agree a way forward for the 2020-21 season. Sad to say all of the planned summer events have had to be cancelled.

None the less Malcolm has kicked-off the ‘new norm’ season with four-ball fun games to get us back in the swing, with Competitions to take place from August onwards.

During the period of Lockdown we very sadly lost two of our most precious members and not to the feared Covid virus. Jim Pearce, a huge character at the club for many years and our ‘swindle’ organiser, lost his battle in April after returning from a family trip to New Zealand. And Roland Mansell, former long term treasurer and senior’s committee member, sadly passed away in June after a short illness. Both were very respected members of the Senior section and will be greatly missed.
