Herts Friendly League Vs Panshanger Report 02/04/2022

The first Herts Friendly League of the year kicked off, as usual, at Panshanger.  A cold but bright day greeted us as well as the notoriously tough tee shot off the 1st.  Just ask Dave Mudd about that, with his infamous visit to the buggy shed a couple of years back!

Always fun to visit Panshanger, and the course was in surprisingly good shape.  The greens had just been treated and sanded so were pretty fast.  Another couple of weeks or so with a bit of rain (or snow!) and they should be in very good nick.

Notably, this was Mark Garrett’s inaugural event as Club Captain.  We wish Mark every success for the coming year and we’ll support him as best we can.

Also, there was a notable hole in one for Simon Harris! The 14th hole was playing around 165 yards.  Sadly, Simon wouldn’t have seen it go in but I am told they all had a good look for his ball around the green before finally taking a peek in the hole, and there it was!  Many congratulations Simon! We look forwards to celebrating your success at the bar very soon.  At your expense, naturally! See the picture of this momentus moment below.

Sadly, Simon’s 4 points on that hole were not enough to save Stevenage from defeat 190 – 175 so a narrow defeat and a respectable performance from Stevenage!

Steve Swain and Simon Harris took the swindle with 38 points on count back from Paul McEwan and Simon Hinton

Next Herts Friendly League fixture will be on the 23rd April away at Batchwood.  If you are interested, get your name in to Wayne or Mike Murray ASAP to give them a selection headache.  Clearly, if your surname is Harris you’ll walk into the team!
